This past weekend I attended a great fitness symposium in El Segundo and one of the 2 hour workshops I attended was entitled "Women, Exercise and Metabolism".
I have to tell you it provided all who attended with some really great information. Thought I'd pass on some of the highlights:
If you shop at Whole Foods, please watch this video clip from Channel 7 News. When you enter a store that specializes in providing the highest quality organic food options, it would be nice if you could take them for their word, right? You'd like to believe that when it says organic it means it is organic. Being a regular shopper at Whole Foods, I have to say that the following video clip was a bit discouraging to me. Check it out and see what you think. At the very least, it is some serious "fo… Continue

Your time is valuable. If you are going to put in the time to workout and get fit (especially if you are a part of my santa monica boot camp classes), to my mind you sure as heck should want to get the most out of your efforts.
To determine if you are, ask yourself the following questions:
1. Am I getting enough re… Continue

For anyone who has been dealing with soreness in your thighs (front or back), bottom, or been experiencing the beginning of knee discomfort after exercising, check out the video below:
Try to use your foam roller at least 3 times/wk...ideally every day for a couple of weeks. When you begin to do these exercises, expect for it to actually be uncomfortable at first (some have said that it is down right painful)...but you have to go through this for it to be affective. If you st… Continue

Today I've got a short but sweet post for you. When you are working out in fitness class that demands a lot from you both mentally and physically (like Adventure Boot Camp in Santa Monica), it is essential to feed your body with the right fuel. To get you started, I've got 3 foods/drinks you may not of thought of that can support your efforts out there.
When it comes to your body's ability to use fat as energy and reduce body fat correctly, you need to be eating the proper amount of calories. It has been my experience, that when it comes to trying to transform one's body through diet and exercise, most people are eating too few calories. How do you know? Below are some simple equations you can use.
You first have to know these two numbers: Your Resting Basal Metabolic Rate and your Active Basal Metabolic Rate.
First the Resting Basal Metab… Continue

I've had some requests for a video of the Dynamic Warm-Up we do before my Santa Monica boot camp classes...therefore I thought it was about time I did one.
Remember this warm-up is designed to be done before exercising. It does 4 things:
1. Gets the heart pumping
2. Warms up the core muscle temperature
3. Mimics the movements that will follow in your workout
4. Takes the muscles through full range of movem… Continue

This past weekend I held a Grocery Store tour for my boot camp in Santa Monica. We were so fortunate to be led on the journey by Holistic Nutrition Educator and Personal Chef Jessica Hilton.
Every once in a while we come across something that moves us to our very core. Something that inspires us to be just a little bit better today than we were yesterday. For some, this "something" is a sunset.
So you want to get that lean, toned leg look for the summer? Then read on because I've got a routine for you that will get you started down this path.
Before we get to the workout, I wanted to say thanks to the 20+ people who started the day off right at 8 am today with my Santa Monica fitness program, BootCampWorks. It… Continue

Happy Saturday Everyone!
It's already June 27 and that means we are about a week into the summer months...months that often present a fair number of invitations to cookouts, parties and the like. Many of these summer celebrations will offer foods that aren't designed to help keep you slim and trim...chips, barbeque sauces, burgers, buns and more.
Having said this, I know that with all the hardwork you have been putting in during my boot… Continue
